Candle- And its Importance in Different Religions

Earlier a candle was used as an instrument to light the house. There was no electricity in the olden days.  It was in the 20th century that the candles were more common in the north Europe. At some places oil lamps were also used. Today the purpose has changed the candles are used to create warm and a romantic ambience and the scented candles are used in aromatherapy.candles can be put to any occasion but candles are also been used in places of worship and religion; let’s take Sikhism where a candle is lighted foe the festivals of Diwali. Because Diwali is a festival of lights so put on electric light as well as lighting of the candle both is done. Buddhism candles are a part of their rituals since ages. With flowers and incense candles are also placed before the shrines or images of the Buddha. Buddha’s teachings lighted the path of enlightenment so candles are lighted to remember his teachings. Buddhist scriptures also used light.

Hinduism where almost every day and every house lit the candles. A clay lamp or a diya traditionally known as is a part of every Hindu ritual. Light is a strong symbol of hope and prosperity in Hindus. Christianity the use of the candles is maximum here because it is used for both worshipping and decoration both. The festivals in Christians are incomplete without the use of the candles. A candle symbolizes the light of the Christ. Candles are also carried in processions and that at the either side of the cross. The altar candles are usually placed in pairs. In other religions like Judaism, Kwanzaa, Humanism, Satanism, Unitarian Universalism, Wicca and raqs sharqi lighting of the candle is very important. Candle will always be very important part of all the religions.
